BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Fall National Empty the Shelters® Celebrates the Power of Adoption

For more than ten years, BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters® has connected shelter pets with loving families, and the September event was no exception. Between September 18–30, 12,300 pets, including 5,566 dogs and 6,734 cats from 269 shelters found homes during the Fall National Empty the Shelters event.

With shelters across the country continuing to face overcrowding, the lives of deserving pets are at risk and the need for adoption remains critical. During the fall event, adopters were able to welcome home a spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated and microchipped pet for $70 or less.

“Empty the Shelters continues to be one of the most immediate ways we can help shelters when they are under pressure,” said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “For every pet who leaves with an adopter, a shelter gains space, time and resources for the animals still coming through its doors. We are deeply grateful to everyone who chose adoption during this event and to our shelter partners for the work they do every single day. The need remains significant, and we will keep doing everything we can to help pets find homes while addressing the reasons so many are entering shelters in the first place.”

Since launching Empty the Shelters in 2016, BISSELL Pet Foundation has partnered with more than 909 organizations across 49 states and Canada, helping nearly 440,000 pets find homes. With continued support from donors, Empty the Shelters will remain a vital resource for shelters facing overcrowding nationwide.

BISSELL Pet Foundation encourages the public to consider donating to help pets waiting in shelters across the country find homes. To learn more or contribute, visit bissellpetfoundation.org.

After some online searching and a few letdowns, a family knew they needed a new companion. What started as a trip to find one puppy quickly turned into double the love! When they walked into the Harlingen Animal Shelter in Harlingen, Texas, they saw Brownie and Coconut and it was love at first sight. They tried, but they just couldn’t separate this dynamic duo so the best possible thing happened—they headed home together!
