The Dish

Two veterinary staff in pink scrubs hold two puppies on a red table while a gloved hand offers a treat. Medication boxes are on the table. Bright window and curtains are visible in the background.

Making Veterinary Care Accessible

The need for accessible veterinary care in the United States is bigger than you might think. 38 million households are considered ALICE—Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed (29%). Another 17 million households live at poverty level (13%). And 70% of households have at least one companion pet. What that means: at least 38.5 million U.S. households are struggling with access to veterinary care.

Here is what BISSELL Pet Foundation is doing:

  • Partnering with animal shelters and rescues in 28 states, our Fix the Future® program, the nation’s largest spay/neuter prevention program, is providing over 230,000 spay/neuter surgeries this year for $35 for dogs and $25 for cats, regardless of income, zip code or circumstance.
  • Together with the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation, we are piloting Duffield Pet Wellness Days, bringing access to veterinary care to the communities that need it most.
  • Through our collaboration with Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation, we have facilitated the distribution of more than 1.2 million doses of free flea, tick and heartworm prevention for shelters and their communities in just 8 months.

And we are just getting started.
