September Empty the Shelters®

In September, BISSELL Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters® helped 12,300 shelter pets across the country find loving homes. One of those pets was Benji.

Benji was found at a campsite in a very rural area of Oregon, struggling to survive on his own for nearly two weeks. Thankfully, a kind-hearted stranger refused to give up on him, spending three hours lying on the ground, patiently waiting for Benji to come to him. When he brought Benji to Pendleton Animal Welfare Shelter/Pioneer Humane Society, he told them that if no owner came forward, he was meant to adopt this sweet dog. After no one claimed Benji, the man kept his word. On the first day of Empty the Shelters, the very day Benji became adoptable, the man drove five hours back to the shelter to bring him home. In fact, Benji was the very first adoption of their event.

Benji’s story is a beautiful reminder that every pet deserves patience, love and a second chance. That’s what Empty the Shelters is all about. With your support, we can help more pets like Benji find loving homes.
