First-time adopters agree: Adoption is the best Option!

Kevin’s kids were in for a big surprise when they woke up from their naps on Saturday afternoon.  His family came to Empty The Shelters in the morning and met Ambrosia who was a perfect fit with their 1-year-old son and 3-year-old daughter.  Kevin’s family has pets at home, but this was their first adoption.  Ambrosia was brought in as a stray and is a sweet, mature dog that needed a family to give her some TLC. They absolutely fell in love with her! The kids needed to go home for naps, so Kevin came back to finish the adoption process.  We can’t wait to hear about the screams of joy when they woke up to find Ambrosia!  (Ambrosia was the 100th adoption at BISSELL Headquarters on Saturday!)

Heather came to Empty The Shelters to give adoption a chance for the first time.  Heather has a dog at home, but he’s extremely attached to her as the mom.  Her 10-year-old son, Ethan, wanted a dog who would bond with him and be ‘his’ dog.  They found Riley online at Hearts of Hope Rescue before the event and had even arranged a home visit earlier in the week to make sure Riley would get along with their other dog. Riley was the perfect match for their family! We’ve already heard from Heather and it’s all happy tails: “My son Ethan brought home a new best friend, Riley.  Yesterday was our first experience with BISSELL Pet Foundation and it was amazing to see so many volunteers filled with love for all the pets.  Thank you!”

Nathan and Katelyn were married in April of 2016 and were waiting for the right time to have a dog.  They had never adopted but had heard about the Empty The Shelters from friends and decided to give it a try.  This was their second ETS—during last month’s hurricane relief event they didn’t find the right match, so they came back to try again.  They had looked online earlier in the week and had seen several dogs that interested them, but when they arrived JD, a 5-month-old stray, stole their hearts.  He came right up and snuggled against Nathan, giving him kisses, and that was it.  Nathan said, “we had been selected!” We’ve already heard from Nathan and who said JD seemed to know it was his forever home the moment they went in the door with his tail wagging, bouncing and exploring the area.  “We could not be happier or more grateful for BISSELL Pet Foundation taking care of the adoption costs for us and so many others!  Thank you!”
