Operation Sato

Bringing Safe, Accessible Spay & Neuter to Gurabo, Puerto Rico

The streets of Puerto Rico are home to approximately 500,000 stray dogs or “satos.” One pair of unsterilized dogs can be responsible for 67,000 puppies over six years. Spay/neuter is the only way to stop unwanted litters.

Recognizing the extreme need in Puerto Rico and BISSELL Pet Foundation’s ability to make an impact on pet homelessness through our spay/neuter program, we will provide safe and accessible sterilization services through a collaborative, large-scale event in November 2023.  BISSELL Pet Foundation is partnering with The Sato Project, a local organization, to make a difference for Puerto Rican dogs this November.

BISSELL Pet Foundation, in collaboration with The Sato Project, will spay/neuter, vaccinate and microchip approximately 1,500 dogs in Gurabo, Puerto Rico, from November 1 – 6, 2023. This initiative will involve five active surgery tables and a team of top veterinarians, veterinary technicians, volunteers and data collectors. All services will be free to the community on a first-come, first-served basis.
